Celebrating Latinx Hispanic Heritage Month

Celebrating Latinx & Hispanic Heritage Month

Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 through October 15 in recognition of the rich history and many contributions made by our Latinx/Hispanic community. As a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution with 42% of students identifying as Hispanic/Latinx, Chabot College proudly celebrates the achievements, experiences, and voices that have helped shape our diverse institution.

To kickoff Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month, members of the Chabot community hosted La Bienvenida. This was a successful event that welcomed new students to our campus and helped build community, or comunidad, by sharing and celebrating food and music with ancestral ties to Latin America or the Caribbean. The goal was to extend a warm welcome to our new scholars and introduce them to various resources around campus that make them feel connected and supported.

I had the pleasure to join in the celebration and meet many new Gladiators. This incredible event was also an opportunity for me to take a moment to appreciate the deep commitment of members of our campus community who work tirelessly for the success of our Latinx and Hispanic students. Thank you for serving, supporting, and caring for the all of our students.

I extend my deep appreciation to all those who contribute to our Latinx and Hispanic students’ journey at Chabot, with special gratitude for the leaders and members of the Chicano Latino Education Association (CLEA), Puente, El Centro, Dream Center, the STEM Center, and Latinas Unidas ‘N Academia (LUNA).

This commitment by our campus community is a testament to why we are a proud Hispanic- Serving Institution. Let’s continue our commitment to improving systems and spaces to ensure that our Latinx and Hispanic students feel welcomed, supported and prepared to succeed.

Join me in celebrating Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month by attending upcoming events and by showing your support with the 2024 Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month Zoom background.

President's Welcome

Welcome to Chabot College! For over 60 years, Chabot has helped students meet their academic, social, and employment dreams, goals and aspirations.

I am honored to start my presidency as Chabot’s 10th College President. I am humbled to lead our prestigious institution and excited about the tremendous potential in our programs and services as we aspire to be the best community college in the state.

Chabot College will start this academic year with a number of established and exciting new programs and resources such as our outstanding HSI STEM grant that promotes a STEM Summer Bridge program, offers embedded tutoring, work-based learning, and comprehensive student services, and encourages completion/transfer to STEM majors at 4-year universities. We are also developing a basic needs student success center, referred to as THE HUB, which will house our food pantry, student direct aid, community resources, CAL Fresh Food assistance, and school supplies. Moreover, our academic offerings have expanded by increasing the number of online classes, non-credit, and dual enrollment offerings.

We are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and social justice as we provide an encouraging, inspiring, safe, and nurturing learning environment. Chabot College is intentional in our culture of care for keeping students first.  Our Classified Professionals, Faculty, and Administrators are all here to serve you and your educational journey.  We look forward to our time together and opening up your possibilities for a fantastic college experience!
